It has been a short while since I last posted. Between work, my time at the shooting range and other social activities (on- or offline) doesn’t leave a lot of time to keep updating my blog. Thinks are going rather well overall, especially on the shooting range.

Last week and a half I’ve been shooting the air rifle. I am doing pretty decent with the air rifle. I’ve shot 3 series now and am improving. Today I figured I’d give the pistol a shot (no pun intended). About 2 weeks ago I had my first instruction but didn’t get the chance to shoot a full session of 40 rounds.

Air pistols, like the air rifles are shot on a 12 meter range (40 ft. or 13 yd.). Unlike Hollywood, where you see everyone grabbing the gun with both hands you can only hold the pistol in one hand for sport shooting. It might seem a lot harder than with two hands but it’s not really, considering there’s no recoil.

After firing a few shots at the practice target one of the veteran took me aside to give me a run down on some stuff to try and do. After some additional instructions and having me fire on a custom card to help me line up my shots properly on the vertical axis, I went and shot my series.

It went much better than I would have dreamed. Although at the end my score was suffering from my body getting tired I shot a total of 309 out of 400! That is insane for the first time around. I will be curious to see if I can keep this up but it’s hard to believe this is a fluke.

To finish off, a nice pair of photos of the 2 best cards I shot. I will be keeping history of my results on this page.

  1. It’s time to use the line you used on me a few times on you now: “Sometimes you scare me.”
