  1. I have seen reports flying around that this is due to the way Outlook 2007 allocates memory. Basicly it will take what it will get, if the memory is not being used by anything else at the time.  That does not mean the memory is reserved though, and Windows will free it up to others if requested.
    A bit like what SQL server and Exchaneg do, btw.

    You should be able to test this experimentally by launching several other large memory users, and see the Outlook memory usage shrink.

    But I have not so far been able to find any official documentation on this “feature”

  2. What surprised me is that the memory usage was increasing with the second. I took 2 screenshots. The first was when it just hit the 1GB mark, the second one (shortly after that) was already at 1.3GB. My machine was swapping like an idiot at that time. Firefox was complaining that there wasn’t enough memory left to execute javascript. It was pandemonium.

    It didn’t quite seem like normal behavior. I’ve used Outlook 2007 for 2 months now and memory use has rarely exceeded 200MB marker.
