Personal log January 24th

Finally landed on Seattle airport after a relatively short 9 hour flight. The pilot took almost a full hour of the schedule. Kudos to the pilots.

The flight was a pretty smooth one. At first I had some problems with my in flight entertainment system, which kept rebooting a few times 25 minutes within the movie Death Race. After some persistent abuse on my part the entertainment system kept itself in check.

Death Race is based on the ancient cult movie Death Race 2000, in which Sylvester Stalone made his debute and was the inspiration for the controversial game Carmageddon. Where Death Race 2000 is almost hilarious in its presentation, Death Race is a more serious action movie featuring Jason Statham. Although most of the movie is highly predictable and pretty mindless it is amusing.

After that I watched Eragon. This movie started out good and was pretty exciting. The end however was rather abrupt, which left me with the dissatisfied feeling there should have been more. Still, it was entertaining; it just had so much more potential which was left untapped.

Next was The Wild, a Disney production which had a lot in common with Pixar’s Madagascar. Disregarding the suspicions and cheap aftertaste of a copy cat production the movie itself was ok, good enough for a few chuckles. It failed to impress me, which reconfirms my reasons for usually not watching both the Pixar movie and the Disney variety.

The last movie was Bangkok Dangerous. Unfortunately I did not get to finish it as two-thirds through the movie the plane started on its decent. The setting of the movie is inspiring to me, but then again I am a sucker for the assassin stories like The Jackal, Hitman and Collateral.

In this instance Nicolas Cage plays a successful assassin planning on his retirement hit. In the mean time he takes on a Bangkok street punk as a pupil and has a doomed romance with a deaf drugstore clerk. Just when things get pretty messy the movie stopped. Although not being a big fan of Nicolas Cage I feel compelled to rent this movie to at least see the end.

And here I am now, sitting in Seattle Tacoma airport waiting for my connecting flight to Pasco. I will be happy when I am done traveling, but for now I am still enjoying everything along the way.
