Working on something new – WordPress MP3 player widget

Website buildingIt starts out as answering a demand. This weekend my wife finally switch ed from LiveJournal to a WordPress blog and immediately started to scrounge for widgets and plug-ins. One plug-in she could not find; an MP3 player for in your menu bar. (much like you can have on myspace)

I immediately admit that I am no Flash guru; I leave that crafty stuff to others to make. But I did find a nice open source flash MP3 player, which was created by neolao. It is extremely customizable and (better yet) is small enough to fit in a sidebar.

I’ve already made a first (fast) implementation of the Flash MP3 player (see my wife’s blog for a running sample) . A fast hack in order to keep her happy. I have however decided to make a proper implementation for WordPress; with all the functionality and customization built in the flash MP3 player it would almost be an insult not to use it.

So keep an eye out for updates on this new project. It will no doubt keep me off the streets for a bit. 😉

  1. Hi,

This type of mp3 player is exactly what I’ve been looking for. There are surprisingly few mp3 widgets that are designed for a wordpress sidebar. However, I don’t quite understand how to install this one.. do I just drop the zip folder contents into the plugins directory, or is there something I need to do with the Generate page? I didn’t see a readme file in the folder. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks for the work so far!

  2. I’ll have a look for you. I never intended that which I made to be a WP plug-in for distribution really. I can clean it up a little for you and send you a proper zip package.
