Paris grounded

Paris HiltonBig news on the radio yesterday: after 3 days of incarceration Paris Hilton was release from jail. The police has converted her jail time to a 42 days of electronic home arrest, after she was already given a sentence reductionfrom 45 to 23 days on behalf of ‘good behavior’.

The reason for this change in her sentence was due to ‘health problems’, although for reasons of privacy the police could not elaborate on that matter.

Personally I do not care much about Paris Hilton. What I do care about is the fact, that this whole thing in my opinion is nothing more than class justice.

First of all, I do not think that spending a couple of weeks in jail really is in anyway comparable to being forced to stay home for 42 days. Consider the fact how this woman lives and wonder how much of a punishment this is. I reckon that the clash colors of the ankle bracelet are more likely to be punishment for miss Hilton than the fact she cannot leave the premises of her very large and luxurious home. After all, if miss Hilton does not come to the party, the party will just have to come to miss Hilton.
Secondly, she is receiving special treatment by the fact she was even given the option of house arrest. Were she someone else she would have been staying in jail regardless of her health state. You bring up the same arguments against Joe Average and everyone would point out there are medical facilities available.

But maybe more importantly, you have to wonder what kind of signal this is giving to people. With this attitude people like Paris will never be confronted with the harsh reality that everything you do has consequences. With such special treatment you will send out a signal that normal people are held more accountable for their behavior and actions than the rich and famous. These people are portrayed often viewed as role models and as such you should not make exceptions, especially for them.
I am glad the prosecutors are undertaking action to have this thing reversed. These people are the last line of defense for the people, to protect them against class justice and assure true equality. Kudos to those, who protect the people from those who place themselves above the law and shame on miss Hilton for trying to weasel her way out.
