Agile Take on Game Development

If you are into gaming, and space games specifically, you cannot have escaped the tumult that’s surrounding Star Citizen, probably the largest crowd-funded games to date. Questions have risen whether Roberts Space Industries can deliver on the promise of a Utopian sandbox space game, the pinnacle of which was delivered through a much debated article by The Escapist.

As an Agile Coach I’ve watched this unfold through a different set of eyes, and I want to share some insights on how some of this could have been prevented.

Redesign, wait what?

“What happened to that gorgeous retro-design of your blog”, you might ask. I dumped it. I killed it for a few good reasons. For one, it was horribly outdated and as every good person in IT knows, that which is not updated becomes vulnerable. Aside from that, I felt it was time to make a fresh start.

In truth I haven’t touched a line of PHP-code or HTML in a very long time and I cannot say I miss it. I still like tinkering and figuring out how stuff works, but I don’t really have the time to tidy things up and finish them properly. As soon as it becomes mundane I lose interest.

The fact I haven’t updated this blog in forever had more to do with what it had become to represent for me. A stale, old-fashioned place that reminded me of everything that’s wrong with it. It had become the equivalent of a very uncomfortable place to write in.

So, here I am. I have figuratively cleaned the room, washed the windows, vacuumed the floor, painted the walls and cleared my desk. All I need to is start writing again.

And no more custom stuff. In the end it’s about the content, not the context. Let other, younger minds ponder over blog frameworks, style and design. I will just focus on my writing.

How an Idiot on the Road can make your Day

overcome-fearToday I celebrate a personal victory.

I was driving to work today and the last part of the trip driving behind a person in a Nissan Qashqai+2 who was very obviously not paying attention; she was standing still while traffic light was green, was swerving between 2 lanes and took a sudden turn so hard the wheels might have left the road for a second.

Blog restart attempt… again

startblokAs you might have guessed by the huge gap in posts it’s been a while since I’ve even touched this blog. However recently I’ve discovered how I’ve missed vocalizing my opinions. I can do this on Facebook, but I can get rather lengthy in my postings and Facebook is not always the best medium for that.

I’ve also installed a Facebook connect plugin to repost my posts directly to Facebook (and from Facebook to my Twitter). Hopefully it won’t turn into a giant cluster fuck. (if it does, my apologies in advance).

Finally, I’ll probably be writing a bit more about my new passion: Agile development. More and more I’ve shifted from my professional role as Project Manager to Agile Coach and have been training people in the ways of Scrum. I’m devoting a lot of my professional time on this there’s a good chance of me rambling more and more about this subject.

Scammers get even more cheeky

Scam AlertObvious scams are obvious. Some of them are hilarious and some of them are downright cheeky.

The content of the e-mail below is obviously an attempt at identity theft. What’s so ‘funny’ is that they are using their own activities to motivate people into falling into their little trap.

Obviously you should never respond to this. Handing out your personal details as mentioned above will lead to identity theft and the damages that follow. Just a quick Google will show you what the horrific financial and social consequences are of ID fraud.
