I confess to have been hungering for something new of late, musicwise. Usually I pretty much stick with what I already have found to like and love (such as my continuing obsession with Dimmu Borgir and Old Man’s Child) but every now and then I crave new influences and inspiration. I found my answer in the Deathstars.
I’ve recently become infatuated with Muse (which is not weird if you know that I had a ‘fling’ with Radiohead a while back). Muse is the sort of music I can sing along in full force till I feel my soul fibrate in my chest.
But I also have darker appetites that need appeasing.
When unsure what to look for go back to your roots and branch off from there. That being Cradle of Filth (of which I have very little hope of ever releasing anything decent anymore) I came across a video on Youtube which was titled Cradle of Filth / Deathstars, which caught my eye.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LSJI3H9k6JQWhat I saw was a brilliant videoclip with even more inspiring music. Afterwards I discovered that what you see is actually the videoclip of the mediocre song “No time to cry” from Cradle, but the music was a massive improvement. My first impression on the Deathstars.
It’s swedish industrial metal with a sound that completely captured some of the essence that I have found lacking in Cradle of Filth for many years now and at the same time has elements that remotely remind me of Rammstein I really like. After having looped from the few songs I found on Youtube I can with a high degree of probability state this will be my first musical investment of the next year.
