Well my weekend had a flying start. It went southward as soon as I headed for home.
I had a dinner date with my parents so I left at a reasonable time at the office. Halfway home I got stuck on some bad traffic. Not that anything had happened on my side of the road. The accident was on the other side, but of course some rubbernecks need to slow down traffic anyway.
Since I was going to be late I thought I’d call ahead and let people know. My new iPhone however was refusing to call, regardless of how strong the signal was.
As I am waiting for traffic to start moving a van in front of me started rolling backwards very slowly. Seeing that, I honked my horn. Because he didn’t stop rolling other people (who did notice) started honking as well, including a touring car bus behind me. I let my car roll backward a little until I was afraid of hitting the bus. Then *thunk* the guy hits the bumper.
Pissed off I get out the car to address the driver, when he starts driving off again. Apparently he did not notice. As he stops 10 meters further I run upto his window and bang on it, startling the beejezus out of him. The man looked really confused when I – fueled with considerable anger – confronted him about not paying attention. “Is there any damage”, was basically all that came out of him. At the same time one of the people that joined the serenade asked the man if he’d fallen asleep.
I have a hard time dealing with people like that. The cowish appearance of this man fueling my anger even more but at the same time I did not take it out on him. I mean, when you think about it, how long can you be angry at a cow?
Upon inspection little seemed damaged; the license plate got a ding, but that was it. (luckilly) I could continue my crawling journey towards this weekend but not before noting down the details of the van and of the witness.
Arriving at my parents place, I furiously dialed the customer service of my new provider. Having had such lovely experience dealing with customer support of late I was bracing for the worst. Luckilly, it turned out I didn’t need to.
Apparently when receiving the iPhone you get 20 EUR of calling credit until they have activated your subscription. It does sometimes happen that it is delayed. If you call alot the 20 EUR evaporates and like all pre-paid systems you are unable to call out. The guy took down my details and gave me 20 EUR additional credit, which was ‘on the house’.
So with luck, my car is fine, and my cellphone issues are resolved for now. Now just to let go of all that extra stress I managed to build up in that hour and a half.
