Gravatar temporarilly disabled

WordpressI’ve disabled gravatar for the time being. Gravatar is currently having a lot of problems with their service and as a result half the avatars from gravatar are showing as broken images.

I was checking the gravatar website because my avatar had not yet been rated (and it being unrated means it does not show) but the site is not functioning well, either. On the homepage you can see PHP script warnings (display_errors on… tsk tsk tsk) that the MySQL DB server was refusing connections because the site was opening too many connections to the database.

As much as I love the initiative of gravatar and really like their service I have decided to disable this feature on my blog for the time being. It is making it look messy and I reckon gravatar.com can do with a little less traffic at the moment.

The gravatars will be enabled again when Gravatar has managed to get things sorted out. In the mean time: no gravatars with the comments.
